DIY Braces – Can you Straighten Teeth Without Braces?

Other than brushing, flossing, tongue-scraping, and in some cases oil-pulling, it is very rare (if ever) we recommend “DIY” for any dental treatment. That is why when we heard that people are constructing DIY braces to straighten their teeth, we were shocked to say the least.

In this article, we will apply this philosophy and give you the facts and our opinions of DIY braces.

What are DIY Braces?

DIY braces refers to the concept of attempting to straighten one’s teeth using elastic bands or or by other various means without the help or consultation of a dental professional.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we can confidently say DON’T TRY DIY BRACES! As you can see, the rubber band made its way under the gums so far that the top gum had to be peeled back to expose and remove the rubber band. DIY braces are simply unsafe and could result in a number of unprecedented complications we have yet to see. Although it may seem like a good idea to save some money, the potential consequences will end up costing you a lot more (refer to above picture).
